The City of Sevierville is now accepting applications and/or resumes for the position of Planner. The City is located in the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and places a strong emphasis on tourism, retail development, and community enhancement. This position is responsible for assisting with planning, zoning, subdivision and general development, site/plan review, customer service, and related records and paperwork.

The essential functions of the position include reviewing site development plans and subdivision plats for conformity to zoning and development ordinances, provide customer service to the Sevierville residential and business communities, including providing information relating to planning/zoning and inspections, and assisting with resolution of problems, participate in studies for preparation of amendments to zoning and development ordinances, provide assistance in planning-related activities such as the collection of population land use, demographics/census, as well as economic development programs, and other duties as directed.

This position requires imaginative insight, a Master’s degree in urban, community, and/or regional planning or closely related field. This is an entry level position and requires no experience, but the position will carry with it some administrative responsibilities such as answering basic zoning questions, filing administrative paperwork, and taking minutes at the Planning Commission meeting.

This is an excellent time to join the Planning Team in Sevierville. The City has a small town feel with big city development going on. We are undertaking a comprehensive zoning ordinance rewrite, subdivision regulation amendments, and overall land development regulation compilation. Position: Reserve Firefighter, Part-time
Dept: Fire Department
Salary: $10.00 an hour, non-exempt

The essential function of the position within the organization is to provide protective services and treat injured persons. The position is responsible for responding to fires or other emergency situations, extinguishing fires, rescuing and providing emergency medical services to persons, daily cleaning of facilities, daily training, general building and truck maintenance, performing salvage operations and related follow-up. The position works under general supervision according to procedures.

To be eligible to apply, applicants must:
 Be at least eighteen (18) years of age.
 Be a high school graduate or equivalent.
 Be a citizen of the United States.
 Not have been convicted of, or plead guilty to, or entered a plea of nolo contendere to any felon charge or to any violation of any federal or state laws or city ordinances relating to force, violence, theft, dishonesty, gambling, liquor or controlled substances.
 Not have been released or discharged under anything other than an honorable discharge from any armed forces of the United States.
 Meet the standards for Firefighter as established by the Tennessee Commission on Firefighting.
 Have at least 1 year of firefighting experience with satisfactory completion of the Tennessee State Fire Academy Basic/Live Firefighting courses or equivalent.
 Regional Training Association Recruit Academy.
 Emergency Medical Responder. (First Responder)
 Firefighter I certification by the TN Commission on Firefighting or Equivalent.

Successful candidates must possess and thereafter maintained throughout employment:
• CPR Certification.
• NFPA Approved Firefighter Physical.
• NIMS-ICS 100,200,700 and 800.
• Blood Borne Pathogen Certification.
• Self Contained Breathing Apparatus Fit Test.
• Emergency Medical Responder. (First Responder)
• Valid Tennessee Drivers License.
• Vehicle Extraction Certification.
• Hazardous Materials Operation Certification.
• Completion the physical agility course and department orientation class.
• Completion of six hours in the department’s voluntary Ride Along program.

Applications for employment may be acquired at Sevierville City Hall.  Position applying for must be specified on the application and/or resume. Every prospective employee, as part of the conditional offer of employment, shall undergo a criminal background check and a driving record background check, conducted by the City of Sevierville Police Department. Each person shall also be given a medical/physical examination by a licensed physician, which will include a drug/alcohol screening and a muscular-skeletal screening. Other examinations and screenings may be required depending upon the job for which you are applying. The cost of these examinations will be borne by the City.

Insurance, Retirement, And Benefits

The City of Sevierville offers a benefits package to their full time employees. These benefits include paid medical and dental insurance, life insurance, short-term disability, and paid holidays. Upon hiring, city employees are automatically enrolled in the TN Consolidated Retirement System, which contributes 5% of an employee’s pre-tax dollars from each pay period into a retirement fund. Vacation leave is earned at a rate based on length of service. Sick leave is earned at 1 day per month.
