Employee News
Beginning April 1st, the City has a new Pharmacy Benefit Manager (PBM). The switch to WHI (Walgreens Health Initiatives) from NMHCRx brings a new option that many have been looking forward to. WHI has an additional program called Advantage 90 for employees who purchase maintenance drugs ( prescriptions purchased for 3 months at a time ). In addition to mail order, employees may now purchase their maintenance drugs at certain local pharmacies who participate in the WHI Advantage 90 Network. Currently, the Advantage 90 Network includes:
It is important to understand that there are two WHI pharmacy networks: 1. The smaller WHI Advantage 90 Network and 2. The larger WHI Preferred Network. Shorter term prescriptions, such as for antibiotics, may be purchased at almost any local pharmacy. The WHI Preferred Network is very large, including all but one or two pharmacies within Sevier County and the surrounding area. The change to WHI is also expected to bring improved customer service to our plan members and provide greater overall value to the City’s self-funded health plan. FORMULARY CHANGES Although the City of Sevierville Employee Health Plan has the same pharmacy benefits as before ( 3 tier structure and co-payments remain the same) there are changes in the formulary (list of drugs by tier). WHI’s formulary is different from NMHCRx. All pharmacy benefit managers have different formularies. We have been having employee meetings to help plan members understand the formulary differences:
If you take maintenance drugs, it is important that you know if your medications have been impacted. We have been having employee meetings to help members navigate through this change without any negative financial impact. WHI is also sending a letter to each member who has formulary disruptions. The letter will provide members with generic and preferred name brand options to their 3rd tier drugs. Please feel free to contact Jamie Tyler, Risk Manager, or Kristi Inman, Human Resources Manager, at City Hall with any questions. The WHI website, www.mywhi.com and WHI Customer Care 800-207-2568 are also helpful resources.
