SFD Housing Ceremony and Open House Scheduled for New Engine

Posted May 10, 2017

The Sevierville Fire Department (SFD) recently took delivery of Fire Engine Number 12 from the manufacturer in Nesquehoning, Pennsylvania. The $630,000.00 engine will be dedicated in a traditional Housing Ceremony at Fire Station 2, 423 Collier Drive, on Tuesday, May 16, 2017. Limited public parking is available at the station. The ceremony will take place at 3:00PM.

Prior to and continuing after the Housing Ceremony, the station will host an open house from 2:30PM-6:30PM. Firefighting apparatus and equipment will be on display, and firefighters will be present to answer questions. The public is invited and encouraged to attend both the Housing Ceremony and open house. Light refreshments (cake, drinks and pizza) will be served as supplies last.

The Housing Ceremony will include a dedication, ribbon cutting and "pushing-in" of the new fire engine. The ceremony is a tradition dating back to the 19th century, symbolizing the value that new fire engines hold for their communities.

The Engine 12 building process took nearly a year to complete. SFD staff created the specifications from the ground up to meet the needs of our community. Engine 12 is replacing Engine 16 which was put into service in 1989 and is retiring after an impressive 28-year working history. The last significant fire response for Engine 16 was the 2016 Gatlinburg area wildfires.
