Sevierville Prepares for Visitor Increase During Solar Eclipse

Posted August 17, 2017

The City of Sevierville is anticipating a significant visitor increase during the upcoming solar eclipse. Large numbers of visitors are not typically present on Mondays in late August, however August 21 will most certainly be an exception.

Sevierville Police and Fire Departments have been meeting with area emergency service agencies to prepare for the large number of visitors and vehicles that will likely be present. Sevierville will have additional officers and firefighters on duty to respond to both emergency and non-emergency incidents.

Area traffic is expected to be heavier than usual. The Sevierville Police Department Twitter page (@SeviervillePD) will provide regular traffic updates throughout the day. Technicians will be on hand to adjust traffic light timing as needed to keep the traffic system operating as efficiently as possible. Still, motorists should consider alternate routes in advance of arriving or leaving Sevierville, including Veterans Boulevard (Hwy. 449), Pittman Center Road (Hwy. 416) and Newport Highway (Hwy. 411/35).

Persons needing non-emergency law enforcement assistance in Sevierville should call 865-453-5506. For emergencies, call 911.
