Diverging Diamond Project and Associated Exit 407 Improvements (TDOT Project)

The new interchange opened June 30, 2015, more than two weeks ahead of the projected July 14 opening date. The project started in March 2104 and was awarded to J & M Grading Division LLC in the amount of $15,647,551.60. The work consisted of grading, drainage, rehabilitation of a concrete cast-in-place bridge, and paving on I-40 at the State Route 66 interchange (Exit 407). Bridge traffic has been reconfigured into a diverging diamond pattern to enhance traffic flow and improve efficiency on Highway 66 and the I-40 Exit 407 ramps. Some work remains, including opening all lanes on the eastbound and westbound off ramps and additional paving and road markings.
