Police Arrest Two Persons after Attempt to use Counterfeit Money

Detectives with the Sevierville Police Department (SPD) arrested two Knoxville persons in connections to an attempt to use counterfeit money. SPD officers responded to the Great Smokies Flea Market, 220 West Dumplin Valley Road at approximately 1:55 PM Saturday, September 12, 2015. Police were called by a security officer at the flea market.

According to SPD Detective Milliron, 47-year old Timothy Buchanon of Knoxville reportedly used counterfeit money to purchase an item from a vendor, but before he could leave the counterfeit money was discovered and the merchandise was returned. Before SPD officers arrived, Mr. Buchanon allegedly gave $920.00 in counterfeit money to his daughter, 28-year old Jessica Buchanon of Knoxville, who reportedly hid the money in a restroom trash can at the flea market. The money was recovered by SPD officers.

Both individuals were subsequently charged with criminal simulation and transported to the Sevier County jail for booking. The Secret Service was notified and will be investigating the incident along with the SPD.

All persons are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
