Fire Department Readies New Headquarters

When not responding to calls for service and performing their regular job duties, Sevierville Fire Department staff is staying busy getting the new headquarters ready to open.

“So far, our fire marshal and fire inspector have moved in” to the new headquarters, said SFD Chief Matt Henderson. “After the radio system and exhaust removal system are installed later this week, we’ll be able to shift our operations to the new facility. The goal is to be responding to calls for service by the end of this month from our new home.” A grand opening has been scheduled for April 5; details will be released closer to date.

 

Located at 1162 Dolly Parton Parkway, the new headquarters will provide 24-hour staffing of seven firefighters, two engines, one light rescue vehicle, one ladder truck and an array of technical rescue equipment. The estimated cost of the 17,000 square foot facility is $6 million.

The station’s primary response area will be east Sevierville into downtown, and it will provide a significant reduction in response times for east Sevierville.

The headquarters will be home to all Fire Department administrative staff and include a training classroom which will also serve as Sevierville’s Area Command Center during large scale emergencies, operating in conjunction with the Sevier County Emergency Operations Center. Also, a museum will be located in the lobby area to house Sevierville’s first fire engine and other historical SFD items.
