Local Man Severely Injured While Attempting to Enter Truck

Sevierville Police Department officers responded to a 911 call at 7:07AM this morning, Wednesday, May 23, 2018 regarding a pedestrian who was laying on the shoulder of West Main Street with serious injuries.

The injured man was identified as 39-year old Chad Bonilla of Pigeon Forge, TN. He was transported to the University of Tennessee Medical Center with severe leg and other injuries.

According to witnesses, Mr. Bonilla allegedly approached a pick-up truck that was stopped at the traffic signal at West Main Street and Old Knoxville Highway, and attempted to climb into an open window on the passenger side. The driver of the truck, 18-year old Kenny Cogan of Seymour, TN struggled with Mr. Bonilla but was unable to force him out of his truck, at which time Mr. Cogan drove west on West Main Street with Mr. Bonilla still attempting to enter the truck through the open window. After approximately one-half mile, Mr. Bonilla fell from the truck. Mr. Cogan stopped nearby and awaited the arrival of officers.

Mr. Cogan was uninjured in the altercation. Charges are pending on Mr. Bonilla.
All persons are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
