Suspect Surrenders After Standoff on Retreat Street

Posted 05-05-21.

A suspect peacefully surrendered to police officers after a two-hour standoff yesterday, May 4, 2021.

Sevierville Police Department officers responded to the home on Retreat Street at about 2:40 p.m. after a Sevier County Sheriff’s Office deputy requested assistance. The deputy was reportedly serving a civil process on 32-year old Matthew Dyke at the residence, when it was determined he had several sealed indictments against him. When the deputy attempted to place him under arrest, he went back into the residence and refused to surrender, whereupon SPD was called.

Repeated efforts by SPD officers to have the suspect surrender were unsuccessful, resulting in SPD SWAT and Crisis Negotiators responding to the scene. It was also learned that Mr. Dyke was in possession of a rifle.

Contact was made with a woman who was also inside the residence, who eventually exited and surrendered to police. She was identified as 34-year old Lauren Baker. Ms. Baker was arrested on the following sealed indictment: manufacture/delivery/sale/possession of a Schedule III substance.

After conversations with SPD crisis negotiators, Mr. Dyke exited the residence and surrendered to officers at approximately 4:40 p.m. He was arrested on the following sealed indictments: three charges of manufacture/delivery/sale or possession of methamphetamine, and three charges of manufacture/delivery/sale/possession of a Schedule III substance. He was also charged with possession of a prohibited weapon and felon in possession of a weapon.

Both persons were transported to the Sevier County Jail for booking.

SPD thanks the Sevierville Fire Department and Sevier County EMS for their assistance during this incident.
