October is National Crime Prevention Month, Let’s All Start Our #9PM Routine

Posted 10-12-20.

In 1984, October was designated as Crime Prevention Month by Presidential proclamation. Since then, the National Crime Prevention Council (https://www.ncpc.org/) has partnered with local law enforcement, government agencies, civic groups, schools, businesses, and other organizations to help them spread the word about crime prevention and personal safety.

The Sevierville Police Department will participate in Crime Prevention Month by providing crime prevention information and tips for our community. This week, let’s all start our #9PM Routine. The following week will focus on Elder Safety, and the last week of October will highlight Keeping Kids Safe.

Beginning this week and continuing throughout the fall, the SPD will use their Facebook and Twitter social media accounts to occasionally remind residents and visitors of the importance of removing valuables from their vehicles and ensuring that their vehicle is locked every night. By making this a habit, we can reduce the chance of being burglarized. The program will also emphasize the importance of securing your home each night.

SPD will post reminders at 9PM on social media to:
• Remove valuables from your vehicle
• Take your keys
• Lock your vehicle
• Lock your home.

“Taking these simple steps each and every night could be the difference in being a burglary victim or not,” said SPD Chief Joe Manning.

Please join us and let’s make it a nightly routine! Beginning this week, watch for the #9PM Routine posts on Facebook (SeviervillePoliceDepartment) and Twitter (@SeviervillePD).
