Sevierville plans training during national Trench Safety Stand Down

Posted 06-13-25.

The City of Sevierville Water and Sewer and Public Works Departments are proud to participate in the Trench Safety Stand Down, a nationwide initiative dedicated to raising awareness about trenching and excavation hazards and reinforcing safety practices in the construction industry.

On Tuesday, June 17, the City will host toolbox talks, hands-on training sessions, and discussions on proper trenching techniques, protective systems, and emergency response strategies. By fostering a culture of safety, we aim to minimize hazards and create a safer work environment for all employees.

As an organization that prioritizes safety, we believe that education and awareness are essential to protect our workforce. In addition to our overall risk management strategies, participating in the Trench Safety Stand Down allows us to further reinforce our commitment to ensuring that every employee goes home safely at the end of the day.

Organized by the National Utility Contractors Association (NUCA), the Trench Safety Stand Down provides an opportunity for employers, workers, and safety professionals to pause their workday and focus on trench safety education. With trenching accidents being one of the leading causes of fatalities in the construction sector, the City of Sevierville is committed to ensuring that every worker understands the risks and follows best practices to prevent injuries and fatalities.
