Sevierville utilizes state-of-the-art pavement management technology for street maintenance

The City of Sevierville has taken a big step in its pavement preservation program with a new state-of-the-art technology for assessing, maintaining, and improving infrastructure. The new technology comes from Roadway Management Technologies (RMT), a company offering performance tracking solutions.
“The mission of our City is to provide quality services while preserving and advancing the interests of the community’s citizens and visitors, and this new technology allows us to do just that from a street quality viewpoint,” said Doug Tarwater, City of Sevierville Public Works Director. “We now have real-time pavement performance analytics that allow us to view the street network holistically and work to improve the conditions of our street network across the board, while minimizing costly total street reconstruction in the future.”
The equipment provides vibration and camera data and automatically reports street and driving conditions. The comprehensive data helps tailor future paving plans to ensure the most efficient use of funds, and custom work orders can be readily created based on the condition data, making pavement preservation and repair more manageable and ensuring the most efficient use of tax dollars. Long term, this will help the City optimize street quality for the citizens and visitors of our community.
"The City of Sevierville, TN has taken the needed steps to adopt a pavement preservation method, increasing their productivity as one of this nation’s Smart Cities,” said RMT CEO Candler McCollum. “Our Real-Time Pavement Performance Analytics will allow them to assess the conditions of their current roadways and use machine learning and AI technology to make suggestions for the best possible pavement treatment plan.”
