Multi-vehicle crash closes Interstate 40 East for several hours

Posted 09-11-25.

The Sevierville Police Department responded to a multi-vehicle crash at approximately 8:00 p.m. last night, Wednesday, September 10, 2025 on Interstate 40 East, near mile marker 409.

The crash involved three semi-tractor trailers and a 2025 Toyota Camry. According to Crash Reconstructionist Detective Kinsley Prevatt, the preliminary investigation indicates that the Toyota Camry collided with a tractor trailer, resulting in that tractor trailer and a second tractor trailer in the next lane, both veering off the roadway into the median. The Camry then collided with a third tractor trailer and was caught partially beneath that tractor trailer.

One of the tractor trailers that veered into the median turned over on its side. The driver, 58-year old Perry Andrews, was trapped in the cab and was extricated by emergency responders. He was transported to the University of Tennessee Medical Center via Lifestar air ambulance with unknown injuries. No other injuries were reported.

The driver of the Camry, 20-year old Jonathan Negrete-Toledo of Dandridge, TN, was subsequently charged with underage driving while impaired and violation of implied consent. A passenger in the Camry, 20-year old Victor Rodriguez Campos of White Pine, TN, was charged with underage alcohol consumption.

Interstate 40 East was completely or partially closed for over six hours. The Sevierville Fire Department, Northview Fire Department, Sevier County Ambulance Service, Tennessee Highway Patrol, Tennessee Department of Transportation, Sevier County Emergency Management Agency, and the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, also assisted.

The crash remains under investigation.
