Local person dies from apparent cycling accident

The Sevierville Police and Fire Departments responded to a report of a person lying near the Little Pigeon River next to the West Prong Greenway at approximately 6:00 p.m. yesterday, Sunday, September 14, 2025. A greenway user called 911 to report the person was on a rocky embankment between the river and greenway, near the Parkway bridge.

The initial investigation indicates that the person, identified as 58-year old Richard James Myers of Sevierville, TN, was apparently riding a bicycle when he left the greenway and landed in the rocky embankment, sustaining fatal injuries.

Detectives do not suspect foul play was involved. The investigation is ongoing.
